DONOR SPERM

Our group is the owner of CRYOBANK, the largest sperm bank in Argentina, which has been providing services since 1988 and is the busiest outfit of its kind in this part of the world.

The donors are chosen primarily according to physical traits and/or patients’ preferences and our laboratory compares facial features in order to provide a donor that most resembles the patient’s wishes. Our donors are anonymous, for the most part, and wish to remain so. Nevertheless, some donors agree to have their identity disclosed to adults born through their sperm (identity release donors).

Donors provide pictures of themselves as children and we can share an online book which includes physical features and personal information.

Our sperm donors undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation (both physically and psychologically), complete a genetic questionnaire and are subjected to a number of tests in order to comply with regulations and suggestions of both local and international scientific societies.

These tests include routine lab work, Thalassemia, infectious disease panel, chromosome analysis, several mutations for Cystic Fibrosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

The cryopreserved sperm vials need to be placed in quarantine for a minimum of six months to avoid the risk of transmission of an infectious disease.

Some of our donors have undergone extensive carrier screening which provides extra safety for some.*

*When both egg and donor sperm are requested, we can match both gametes (donors) with extensive carrier screening performed in both to provide an extra measure of safety for those concerned.
